At Tuesday’s train wreck, uh, news conference at Trump Tower, Trump weighed in on the violence in Charlottesville, saying again “both sides” were to blame. Shortly after saying that some “very fine people” marched with the white supremacists and neo-Nazis, the president took a question about his plans to visit Charlottesville.
“Does anyone know I own a house in Charlottesville … it is the winery … I own actually one of the largest wineries in the United States.“
He’s referring to Trump Winery, which he took over after the Kluge family defaulted on bank loans, that’s a whole other saga. His claim about owning it? Yeah, no. According to the winery’s website,
Trump Winery is a registered trade name of Eric Trump Wine Manufacturing LLC, which is not owned, managed or affiliated with Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization or any of their affiliates.
And get this. The Trump Winery has come under fire lately after Trump Vineyard Estates LLC sought H2 visas from the Labor Department to employ –are you ready for it? – FOREIGN WORKERS!
The company’s website also says the winery has planted on the East Coast,
“210 acres of French vinifera varieties and is Virginia’s largest vineyard.”
But Annette Boyd, director of the Virginia Wine Board, told Politifact that Trump Winery is not even the biggest in the state, let alone the country.
Trump Winery makes 36,000 cases of wine a year, compared to Williamsburg Winery and Chateau Morrisette, which produce at least 60,000 cases, according to Boyd.
As for the East Coast, Biltmore Winery in Asheville, N.C., produces 150,000 cases a year.
Btw, the biggest winery in the U.S. is E. & J. Gallo, which accounts for more than a quarter of all U.S. wine sales and is the second largest producer in the world with more than 23,000 acres of vineyards in California.
And the biggest blowhard, whining, racist, lying asshole in the United States. One guess?
