Some Italian students discovered their new math lecturer had a former life as a gay porn star with Colt Studios. Ruggero Freddi himself confirmed this last weekend when he posted a video to Facebook of himself proudly flexing.
The video quickly went viral among his students at La Sapienza University of Rome. That’s when someone recognized him from some more hardcore videos performing under the name Carlo Masi.
The news spread like wildfire among the student population, leading to a news story Thursday on Republica – one of Italy’s biggest news organizations who ask Freddi about his former work in the adult entertainment world. He said,
“Some students reposted the photo in a few sites and from there my former life as a porn actor emerged. To be honest, it wasn’t exactly a secret.
I was offered to do a film in the USA. I thought, ‘Why not?’ A job that helps me earn more and is a more entertaining career.“
Freddi, 41, appears unfazed by the attention and interest in his past. He quit porn in 2013 and returned to Italy to study for a Masters degress in Math. This is in addition to the Masters degree he already has in Computer Engineering. He is now undertaking his PhD while teaching.
He has been with his partner, Gustavo Alejandro Leguizamon, for the past 11 years and they are engaged to be married.
He told Loverboy magazine in 2013 about his plans to get a PhD,
“I am almost 40, so it is not going to be easy, but I have a very good resumè. Let’s see what happens. My dream right now is to become a Math Professor, but it is not going to be easy. The competition is very high.“
After the news came out, he said,
“I knew sooner or later something was going to happen, but I didn’t expect something so big to happen. I thought someone would publish something and my students would talk about it for a while, but I wasn’t expecting the entire country to actually speak about it.’
It’s been crazy.
The only email I received was from my tutor and she asked me how the week as a teacher had been and if I needed anything, and if we can meet to talk about my future teaching and job – so nothing weird or bizarre.
I don’t think any of them [students] will come to me to ask about my past. The worst that I can expect is one of them to say, ‘I’ve seen you on TV – congratulations.’
I’m happy and proud of both my careers. They both reflect part of my personality. I was happy I was a good looking guy and the world recognized this. I am very happy the world recognizes I’m a smart guy.“
