#SpoilerAlert: Solar Oppositeshas a new voice actor for Korvo. Why?
On the first three seasons, Korvo was voiced by the series co-creator Justin Roiland who was forced off the show after a domestic violence charge was filed against him. He was also dropped from his leading vocal roles in Koala Manand Rick and Morty.
British actor Dan Stevens was announced as the new voice of Korvo in June, and Hulu revealed how the change took place.
But it’s not really such a big spoiler because it happens in the first minute. Korvo has his throat impaled by a dart and in an effort to fix the wound, Yumyulack blasts him with a “voice-fixing ray“ that completely changes the way he speaks.
Terry, Korvo’s partner, admits that the change is fine by him, even preferring the new version.
Ryan told ComicBook that the series wanted to avoid creating an imitation of previous voice actor Justin Roiland, electing to rather start fresh.
We didn’t want to match the previous voice and felt like it would come across like we were doing a cover song.”
This wackiness allowed Stevens to take over and really make Korvo his own without raising too many eyebrows.
We thought it would be funny to use this in-show method to explain the voice change.
Even with a big shift, we still wanted to preserve the humor and emotional aspects that we’ve built for Korvo over the years.
We worked with our casting team, listened to a ton of auditions, and met with some incredible actors.
Solar Opposites Season 4 is now available to stream on Hulu.
