Last night was the reception for the Film Independent Spirit Awards nominees at Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica. Randy Barbato was there and succinctly reports:

FOOD – Turkey burgers.

BEST GIFT BAG ITEM – Diamante-encrusted tape measure. Yes, I said the BEST item. Size does matter.

BIGGEST STAR – Naomi Watts received an honorary award of some sort. She spoke about the honesty of independent film, then threatened to sing “I Honestly Love You.”

INDEPENDENT SPIRIT – The nominees all came up on stage and introduced themselves. Think summer camp.

MOST POPULAR – Amy Adams received the biggest round of applause.

BIGGEST LAUGH – Sarah Silverman, who will be hosting the Spirit Awards, ended the evening by saying, “OK, let’s all get back to jerking one another off.”

BIGGEST LAUGH (Runner-up) – Ang Lee introduced himself by saying “I directed The Hulk.”
