On SNL last night, the fictional PBS show Cinema Classics, showed us an alternate ending to The Wizard of Oz that was somewhat problematic.
Dorothy (Kate McKinnon) is back in her bed trying to sort out her memories of Oz telling the farmhands that they were there in her dream as Scarecrow, the Tin Woodsman, and the Cowardly Lion.
But the scene takes a hard left turn with host Will Ferrell as a little person physician who played a “smaller” role in her adventures who grills Dorothy on his role. Other tiny townsfolk showed asking if they were in her dream too,
“Does it really matter what everybody was?”
She finally tells her story about a land of singing munchkins.
“So what were we funny little weirdos? To make you laugh?”
Dorothy tells them,
“You were all heroes in your own small ways.”
Ferrell isn’t having it and says to Dorothy,
“I wish that tornado had killed you! …later adding, “Your house is a dump!”
Btw, this is the best short synopsis of movie of any movie EVER…
