SNL nailed the discussions with parents across the country this quarantined holiday season with The Christmas Conversation.
It features Lauren Holt, Ego Nwodim and Chloe Fineman calling their moms, played by Heidi Gardner, Punkie Johnson & Kate McKinnon, via FaceTime to break the news.
Gardner tells Holt’s character,
“Oh honey, you do not need to come home for Christmas, I just want you to be safe.”
And then adds,
“Yeah, and I guess since you won’t be coming, I’ll just throw your stocking in the fire.”
Johnson, in the middle of cooking gumbo tells Nwodim,
“Okay, let’s talk about this later… when you’ve changed your damn mind!”
McKinnon tells Fineman,
“If you don’t love me, Marie, just say so. I didn’t raise a coward.”
Host Jason Bateman as Dad says,
“You know, your mother really misses you, right? Are you not getting that? Is your heart not working baby? This is your mother here.”
The sketch ends on a sweet note with the message,
“Someday soon we all will be together.”
The CDC is recommending that people NOT travel this holiday season in order to flatten the curve. Have the conversation.
