On Saturday May 8, SNL will welcome billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk as guest host. Not everybody is happy about it.
Elon, of course, is a billionaire CEO who has spent his free time this past year downplaying the coronavirus pandemic and stoking conspiracy theories about it.
Cast members are openly angry about the decision…
In an Instagram story, cast member Bowen Yang wrote “what the f— does this even mean?” as a caption to Musk’s tweet from over the weekend which read, “Let’s find out just how live Saturday Night Live really is.”
Andrew Dismuke, another cast member, also took to Instagram to apparently address the choice. He wrote:
“Only CEO I want to do a sketch with is Cher-E Oteri” over a photo of former “SNL” cast member Cheri Oteri.
A third cast member, Aidy Bryant, subtly criticized Musk, too. In an Instagram story, Bryant shared a tweet from former presidential candidate and Senator Bernie Sanders. In it, Sanders criticized the sharp wealth inequality in the country, noting that “the 50 wealthiest people in this country own more wealth than some 165 million Americans” and he called that “a moral obscenity.”
Sudi Green, a writer for SNL, shared the same Sanders’ post, too.
An NBC rep declined to comment.
