Joker, the controversial R-rated movie about the origins of the Batman villain, has already racked up over half a billion dollars at the box office.
SNL spoofed it by giving us a preview of the origin story of another character: Oscar the Grouch.
The trailer for Grouch begins,
“From the studio that brought you ‘Joker,’ and the twisted minds at Sesame Workshop, comes the next gritty, antihero origin story.”
Oscar is played by host this week, David Harbour, as a disgruntled, garbage worker in Sesame Street neighb, which is now a haven for crime and corruption.
Ernie gets stabbed in an alleyway after he refuses to hand over his rubber ducky, the Count seems has an opioid addiction, Cookie Monster is homeless and Elmo gets arrested after being racially profiled.
Grouch confesses,
“If everyone calls you trash and everyone treats you like trash, why don’t you just become trash?”
