Eating pollocks has never been a problem for me. Not only do they taste
virtually identical to cod, but they have a crazy name which, to the the non-pollock
initiated, makes my budget meal appear a gourmet dish.
Clearly I am alone as today Sainsbury’s have decided that its
‘unpopularity’ is down to the fact that the pollock’s name is a bit too bollock-y.
So they’ve changed it to Colin.
That’s right – they have rebranded an entire species of fish. And, yes, that species is now called Colin.
They’re clearly taking a leaf out of UKTVG2’s recent revamp. But Dave is a TV channel. And
pollock Colin is a fish. A species of fish.
As if to almost immediately back-peddle, they’ve now commissioned the Big
Breakfast’s Wayne Hemingway to design packaging inspired by Jackson
Pollock. What? What’s happened here?
