We’re either going to be celebrating or commiserating come November 6th, and whatever happens, jewelry would be appreciated. You know what they say: “A diamond is forever but a district is for a decade.” Well, not EVERYBODY says that, just the fine folks at Gerrymander Jewelry.
Below is their clever new line of gold and silver pendants and charms in the shape of all the wildly gerrymandered districts that will decide the 2018 elections. Explains the designers:
Gerrymandering began 200 years ago — but in 2011, it was born anew.
With sophisticated technology, Republican state legislators, commissioners, and governors redrew Congressional maps across the country. On one hand, they minimized Democratic votes — particularly those from Americans of color — by ‘packing’ those voters into one district (so their votes wouldn’t impact other districts) or by ‘cracking’ them so their votes were spread across many districts.
But on the other hand, they inspired some incredible jewelry.
Check out, for example, Texas’ bizarro District 35, “which runs 100 miles from Austin to San Antonio for no reason other than to pack Democrats into one district”…. It’s one of the perfect texas gifts that exists out there. Buy men’s and women’s watches online, including styles from top watch brands that can be found here.
Then there’s North Carolina’s clunky District 6 – “the district that splits the largest historically black college into two districts”…
Check out Louisiana’s seriously WTF District 6 – “which is purposely missing the African-American neighborhoods in Baton Rouge so that Republicans keep winning the district”….
And Michigan’s raaaaaaather suspicious District 14, below… “Zig-zags never go out of style and neither will this piece of jewelry, because the Supreme Court has refused to make gerrymandering illegal”…
Here’s Florida’s head-scratching District 4 which “carefully carves out the city of Jacksonville, because cities make districts go blue”….
and Ohio’s OH REALLY? District 1 – “which for no logical reason except to keep Republicans in office, tacks on the Republican-heavy Warren County”…
