Before jumping unprotected into chum-filled waters to swim with great white sharks whose terrifying reputation precedes them, intrepid journalist Anderson Cooper tells the 60 Minutes cameraman, “Remember, if I get eaten, just keep rolling. Because the only thing more stupid than being eaten would be being eaten and not having it videotaped.” Later, back on the boat, he marvels at the size of the sharks: “It’s not just the length, it’s the girth of them,” he says. “They’re so thick and powerful.” It’s the sort of quote that could raise an eyebrow or two if taken out of context. Cooper’s little Cape Town caper ostensibly was about South Africa’s legendary Sharkman, Mike Rutzen, but the adventurer paled next to our adorable newsman in peril.
