Friday night’s reception for the pop paintings of Sham Ibrahim was glamorous and successful with 18 works of art flying off the walls to the excitable sounds of DJ One Shot aka Drew Forni and the persuasive presence of wine and cheese. And by flying off the walls we mean many patrons shelled out dough on the spot and took the works home with them that night, leaving sad little red “sold” dots without much purpose. The event, which had celebrities “coincidentally” standing next to their portraits and featured the well-turned-out author James St James answering phonecalls on the live Ring My Bell feed (posting soon), was the maiden voyage of WOW’s monthlong Art in August series at the storefront gallery on Hollywood Boulevard. Stop by this week; there’s lots more Sham to see.
