New York Senator, Kirsten Gillibrand, spoke before a surprisingly large and robust Sunday crowd at the New York City Gay and Lesbian Center. She received a very warm welcome after being introduced by the rising star of the gay community, former Lt. Dan Choi. Openly gay Senator Tom Duane was also in attendance, as were several activists such as Corey Johnson, the political director for Towleroad, and Erik Bottcher, the LGBT liaison for the City Council of New York. Senator Gillibrand hit all the right notes. She made clear that she believes in advocacy and has already proven she doesn’t have a problem pushing the senate or even the president to repeal the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy. She also voiced support for full marriage equality, a repeal of DOMA, and the passage of ENDA.
On a small personal note, I like that she looks you directly in the eye when she shakes your hand. (All photos by AGuyNamedWayne)
