Hainan Airlines collaborated with designer Laurence Xu who introduced the new uniforms at the Paris Couture Week. Inspired by traditional Chinese dress, the uniform blends modern Western-style fashion trends and traditional Chinese elements like cloud drawings, waves and the Chinese mythical bird – the Roc.
Xu Fei, brand director of the airline said,
“The cooperation between Hainan Airlines and Lawrence Xu is industry leading. We are not only creating a new uniform but also showing the internationalized image of our airline. Especially on international routes, we would like to let passengers know that China is modern and trendy.”
The men’s version of the uniform is a bit more Western-looking, with double-breasted overcoats and less overt elements of Chinese culture, but chic, nonetheless. Ours are so dull, Westerners would be hard pressed in 2017 to remember what ANY airline uniform looks like on a domestic flight.
