RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 15 winner, Sasha Colby shared her Native Hawaiian culture with us throughout her season. Now, she’s taking her platform nationwide and made an appearance on KTLA to raise awareness about what’s happening in Maui and The Big Island (Hawaiʻi).
Early this month, a series of wildfires broke out predominantly on the island of Maui, causing widespread damage, including the destruction of over 2,000 structures and cultural sites, thousands losing their homes and businesses, at least 114 people killed, and still hundreds of others missing in the town of Lāhainā.

“Grateful for the opportunity to join KTLA earlier this week to discuss Drag Race and my beautiful home of Hawaii that is still in crisis,” she shared on Instagram. “Thousands are displaced following the devastating fires that ravaged Maui and the Big Island of Hawaii last week. The natural disaster has left at least 111 people dead, and thousands of others impacted.”
Colby shared organizations that are taking action in recovery efforts for those displaced by the Maui wildfires:
- @hawaiicommunityfoundation
- @ainamomona
- @mauirapidresponse
- @mauimutailaid
- @mauiunitedway
- @mauifoodbank
- @mauihumanesociety
Follow and donate to these organizations if you can. They are led by and for Native Hawaiians who need our support more than ever. “Kānaka and locals have led recovery efforts and support to those displaced…more than the national guard, federal emergency agencies, and local government,” said Aina Momona.

Additionally, Aina Momona created a master list of fundraisers for those who lost their homes in the Lahaina wildfires. You can donate directly to those families here.
