After Britney Spears‘ disastrous 2007 MTV Music Video Awards performance (of “Gimme More”), comedian Sarah Silverman came out and gave what she now calls “a mini-roast.”
It was BEYOND scathing. She joked:
“[Britney is] 25 years old and she’s already accomplished everything she’s going to accomplish in her life. It’s mind-blowing. And she’s so grown-up. She’s a mother, you know? It’s crazy. It’s weird to think that just a few years ago on this very show, she was this, like, sweet, innocent little girl in slutty clothes riding around with a python.”
She also took shots at Spears’ children, Sean Preston Federline and Jayden James Federline, calling them “the most adorable mistakes you will ever see.”
Earlier this week, on her podcast, Sarah addressed her 14-year-old comments and apologized to Britney, saying:
“Britney, I am SO sorry. I feel terribly if I hurt you or added to the shit storm you were going through…I am responsible for what comes out of my mouth, so I am sorry, doll—I really am.”
you can watch the rest of the episode here, she talks about Britney for the first 10 mins https://t.co/fFh38tbErv— Gabe (@gabeAlfassy) February 11, 2021
She also revealed all the drama backstage at the show that year.
I was known then 4 roasts. MTV asked me to mini-roast Britney after her big performance. While she was performing I was having diarrhea & going over my jokes. Had no idea she didn’t kill. Unfortunate. Art changes over yrs as we know more & the world changes.— Sarah Silverman (@SarahKSilverman) February 8, 2021
Apparently the rumors were true and Britney was supposed to open with Criss Angel, only for him to cancel on her the day before the performance. Which prompted Britney to scrap the original performance and entirely create, rehearse and showcase a new one hours prior to the VMAs.
Britney was set to fail, as her hair dresser walked out on her hours before the event and allegedly [Justin Timberlake] tried to see her backstage.
