It’s THE bop of the year, of course, and now Sam Smith has dropped a new music video for his song “Promises” (featuring Calvin Harris) that showcases his passion for gay ballroom culture. It’s directed by his long-time collaborator Emil Nava, and begins with a number of voguers (including Kevin Stea from Madonna’s Blond Ambition tour) talking about their love of the dance.
‘It’s just like that let go, of like, not having to be somebody that I don’t want to be at that time,’ says one.
‘It’s fantasy. One hundred percent fantasy,’ explains another.
‘Growing up in the Bronx you have to carry this tough skin. Finding vogue, it allowed me to express myself in a way that I couldn’t express anywhere else,’ says another.
Also featured prominently in the video: Supermodel Winnie Harlow, looking too, too fabulous.
