Queen Elizabeth‘s choice in jewelry on the day she met Trump & Melania was pretty, understated and dignified as the befitting a queen.
It was ALSO some subtle royal shade, as it was a personal gift from former President Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama on their 2011 state visit.
According to Politico, the 50s vintage piece features 14-karat yellow gold, diamonds and moss agate in the shape of a flower. It’s also known as the American State Visit brooch.
Last Thursday, the day Trump landed in Britain, the Queen was spotted wearing that pin.
The following day, the Queen donned a different pin on her jacket: This time, a palm-leaf brooch that her mother wore at the state funeral for her father, King George VI.
Her official meeting with Trump came on Friday. Prince Charles and grandsons Prince William and the recently wed Harry declined to meet Trump. The Times of London said,
“They simply refused to attend. It’s a very, very unusual thing for the queen to be there on her own. Usually she is accompanied by somebody. Prince Charles has been substituting for (the queen’s husband) Philip a lot recently.”
Trump and Melania were late to meet with the queen for tea, didn’t bow or curtsy and watched the military march by, where Trump broke royal protocol by walking ahead of the Queen. After a picture, they were gone in under an hour.
When the Obamas visited they had a private dinner with Prince William, Princess Kate and Prince Harry and stayed overnight in Windsor Castle.
Who says the queen doesn’t play favorites?
