The book would make a swell TV series, an idea I’m sure occurred to Pollet when she set fingers to keyboard. (Actually, we happen to know that Mike White of School of Rock and Pasadena fame is currently loving it.) There are the requisite interfering parents, eccentric teachers, the popular girls at school who make Penelope and Stacy sign a pledge not to talk to the new kids, and the potential boyfriend who is. . . a new kid. But I’m only on page 89 – or what would be the pilot. Pollet knows from pilots: She was WOW’s first hire (as a PA who quickly rose to producer) back in 1991, when the company was HQ’d at 80 Varick Street in New York. And she’s written the book versions of MTV’s Real World New York, New Orleans, Chicago, and Hawaii, as well as a couple of Road Rules journals.
“It’s so funny to imagine you guys reading a kids book in your swank LA pads,” Pollet said when Randy Barbato told her we were reading Nobody.
