We returned from Rome a few weeks ago and I’ve been obsessed with a couple of things: First, what year is it in Italy? They seem to have a lot of men who sleep with other men but not a lot of gays. We went to one of the few Roman “Gentleman’s Membership Clubs” aka gay bars. It was called DIETRICH AND YOU, which is almost as embarrassing as the name ROSE’S TURN. The place was deserted except for the five Versace-clad thirtysomethings playing cards in a corner. The card-playing is apparently an acceptable enough activity for five men gathered at an establishment with the name DIETRICH AND YOU. I spent the rest of the trip mistakenly calling the joint GARBO AND YOU, which actually made more sense.
