Fashion journalist, Richard Buckley, died on Sunday in LA.
He began his publishing career at New York Magazine in ’79 and went on to work at Women’s Wear Daily, Vanity Fair, Mirabella, and Vogue Hommes International.
Buckley was married to designer Tom Ford, whose company said in a release,
“It is with great sadness that Tom Ford announces the death of his beloved husband of 35 years…
Richard passed away peacefully at their home in Los Angeles last night with Tom and their son Jack by his side. He died of natural causes after a prolonged illness.”
Buckley was born in Binghamton, New York, and grew up in the US, France, and Germany. He went to the University of Maryland in Munich. During his many years in newspapers and magazines, his editors included Tina Brown, and Grace Mirabella, until he was named editor-in-chief himself of Vogue Hommes International in ’99.
While watching this sweet video below of Ford remembering their initial “love at first sight” meeting, I was reminded of what Paul McCartney said right after his wife Linda died…
“I lost my girlfriend.”
Richard Buckley was 72.
