Philip McKeon, who played Linda Lavin‘s son Tommy on the long-running CBS sitcom Alice, has died. He was 55.
He died Tuesday morning in Texas after a long battle with an undisclosed illness, family spokesperson Jeff Ballard told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement.
“We are all beyond heartbroken and devastated over Phil’s passing,” Ballard said. “His wonderful sense of humor, kindness and loyalty will be remembered by all who crossed his path in life.”
McKeon – who was the younger brother of Facts of Life star Nancy McKeon– portrayed Tommy Hyatt on Alice from 1976-85. The show was based on Martin Scorsese’s 1974 romantic comedy Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore and made breakout stars out of Linda Lavin (Alice), Polly Holiday (Flo), Beth Howland (Vera), and Vic Tayback (Mel). Philip achieved Teen Heartthrob status, appearing on many Tiger Beat and Teen Beat covers over the years.
His other credits included 1987’s Return to Horror High and appearances on CHiPs, Fantasy Island and The Love Boat.
He is survived by his mother, Barbara, and his sister.
