Paul Reubens, who found fame as Pee-wee Herman, has died.
According to an announcement on his Instagram,
Last night we said farewell to Paul Reubens, an iconic American actor, comedian, writer and producer whose beloved character Pee-wee Herman delighted generations of children and adults with his positivity, whimsy and belief in the importance of kindness.
Paul bravely and privately fought cancer for years with his trademark tenacity and wit. A gifted and prolific talent, he will forever live in the comedy pantheon and in our hearts as a treasured friend and man of remarkable character and generosity of spirit.”

Paul’s friend Adam Shankman wrote on Facebook,
Hands shaking. Paul…. My heart is broken into a billion pieces.
Then I looked at the text you sent me last week: a meme of a person in giant hair getting a pie in the face and I burst out laughing. Laughing and crying. This my friend says everything about you and what you gave the world.
I’m going to miss you pal. I hope you know how much I loved you. I think you did.
Rest finally in peace in the biggest of all playhouses.”
