Irish singer Sinéad O’Connor has died.
Her rendition of Prince’s Nothing Compares 2 U was named the number one world single in 1990 at the Billboard Music Awards. She won a Grammy the following year for her album I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got.
O’Conner changed her name to Shuhada’ Sadaqat in 2018 after she decided to convert to Islam.
Sinead’s son, Shane, died last year at 17 and it seems she never recovered. At the time she said he,
decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God.”
As she continued to grieve the loss, O’Connor’s management team released a statement announcing she was cancelling all her scheduled gigs and will not be performing for the rest of the year.
Her final tweet on July 17, was a tribute to her son.
Been living as undead night creature since. . He was the love of my life, the lamp of my soul. We were one soul in two halves. He was the only person who ever loved me unconditionally.
I am lost in the bardo without him.”
Sinead O’Conner was 56.
