Dave Madden was a Canadian-born actor whose most famous role was in the 70s sitcom The Partridge Family, where he played the group’s manager, Reuben Kincaid. After two unsuccessful years playing the Southern nightclub circuit, Madden went to LA, where a successful opening night at a Beverly Hills nightclub led to a recommendation by Frank Sinatra to Ed Sullivan, who signed Madden for three nights on tem>The Ed Sullivan Show. Madden first gained national notice as the confetti-throwing sad sack on Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In in 1968 and 69. He became better known though for being Reuben Kincaid, the harried manager/agent for The Partridge Family (1970–74). Madden said in his memoirs that he didn’t get along with Shirley Jones’ husband Marty Ingels, and had an odd relationship with her as a result. Danny Bonaduce later said that he owes a lot to Madden, who took him into his home during his family’s domestic problems. Madden later had a recurring role as Earl Hicks on the mid-1970s–mid-1980s sitcom, Alice and also made guest appearances on Bewitched, Happy Days, The Love Boat and Fantasy Island. His last appearance was on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch as Dr. Egglehoffer. (Not to make jokes but since Russell Johnson, The Professor on Gilligan’s Island died yesterday too, by the “Rule of Threes”, Tina Louise & Shirley Jones better look both ways before crossing the street. Nick At Nite must be on high alert.) Madden was 84.
