Diva, trans icon, fashion goddess, nightlife fixture, LGBT activist, former roommate, and House of Field muse Codie Leone aka Codie Ravioli passed away last night of heart failure. I’m not sure how old she was, but even if I knew, I wouldn’t say for fear she’d come back and haunt me. I remember Codie had some health issues about 15 years ago and she told me she actually died for about 30 seconds. She was in the hospital and her heart stopped. She said there was a white light and her friend Gabby (who had recently passed away) was there. And as they floated into the light together, she reportedly stopped and said “Hold on a minute, girl, I gotta go back and get my purse.” And then she opened her eyes. Now, I’m sure Codie is partying up on a cloud somewhere having a wonderful time with Gabby and Baby Ru and all the other fierce queens who have left us, but goddamnit I wish she’d come back and get her purse again. Let’s watch an episode of her groundbreaking MTV series Art School Girls of Doom (with fellow goddess Gina Varla Vetro aka Chicklet) and give thanks for a legend. Love love love forever and ever.
