Yes, you’ve been hearing it for months now. Netflix is expected to spent $6 billion this year on shows (more than both NBC and CBS combined) and some of that will be used to get the cast of Arrested Development back together for Season 5.
Producer Brian Grazer said, that,
“All of the actors have agreed to do it…
We found a way to create the compensation structure for all the actors and create a work matrix so they can still make movies and do other things and it will all integrate. So we are really close — I think within a couple of weeks at the most.”
The show aired on Fox before being canceled in ’06. It gathered an loyal cult and returned for a highly anticipated fourth season in 2013 on Netflix. Some praised the return, but Variety said,
“Ultimately, this ‘Arrested’ revival plays a bit like a reunion special, where the individual cast members come out and take their curtain calls…”
The season 4 reboot WAS confusing, because the plot involved everyone having their own storyline for each episode. Series creator Mitch Hurwitz said he wrote it with many intertwining parts that kept the large ensemble cast apart for most of the episodes.
“I felt in many ways, I did not prepare the audience for this. Right before the show came out, I thought, I’ve really not said what this is, and what it had become was a novel. I had this unique opportunity here — people are going to get to watch eight hours of this, they’re not gonna spend the next six months of having it doled out to them… so the storytelling changed. That first episode became much more like chapter one of a novel than episode one of a series. And I didn’t prep you guys — I’m really sorry about that…”
You can understand why it’s hard to get these guys together in one room even for the above photo. The amazing cast is in high demand of late as it’s practically a Who’s Who of hot Hollywood; Jason Bateman is Michael Bluth, Portia de Rossi is Lindsay Bluth Fünke, Will Arnett is Gob Bluth, Michael Cera is George-Michael Bluth, Alia Shawkat is Maeby Fünke, Tony Hale is Buster Bluth, David Cross is Tobias Fünke, Jeffrey Tambor is George Bluth Sr., Jessica Walter is Lucille Bluth and Ron Howard (THAT Ron Goward) is the narrator.
And the other regulars and cameos is off the charts too; Charlize Theron, Amy Poehler, Seth Rogen, Liza Minnelli, Judy Greer, Isla Fisher, Andy Richter, Ed Begley Jr., Kristen Wiig, Christine Taylor and husband Ben Stiller, Maria Bamford, Henry Winkler, Martin Mull and the most Emmy wins by an actress, Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Cannot wait. Until then I’ll watch the entire series again for the 10th time. (I’m not exaggerating… it could be more.) Here’s the season 4 trailer to get you primed.
