London-based FLO is gearing up for another hot girl summer full of turn-of-the-century nostalgia with “Fly Girl.” The best part is they’re bringing Missy Elliott along for the ride.
Elliott said the trio Jorja Douglas, Stella Quaresma, Renée Downer came on her radar last year thanks to fans. Elliott said:
“Working with Flo has been nothing less than amazing. I remember a few of their fans sent me clips of their performances, and I immediately felt the authentic ’90s vibe. I loved the fact they all sang lead so well—great vocal control—so when I was asked to be a part of the ‘Fly Girl’ record, it was a no brainer. They used the inspiration from my song ‘Work It,’ and I felt they did it justice. I enjoyed it and I believe they have a long, great career ahead of them.”
You’ll catch a couple of “Work It” samples in “Fly Girl,” including the famous backmasked sample.

Can we just say that Missy is looking fine as wine? Great to see the 51-year-old R&B pioneer still getting respect. She was looking great at the Grammy Awards for the 50th anniversary celebration of hip-hop, but this is taking her back to her roots.

FLO burst on the scene last year with a string of hits, most notably “Cardboard Box“:
They cruised through many summer playlists with “Immature.”
Their anthem “Summertime” chronicled their hot girl summer in Greece.
And if you’re wondering if Halle Berry heard Elliott’s name-check in the song, here’s your answer:
