Juanita Moore passed away last week. The groundbreaking actress will always be remembered for her Oscar-nominated role in the epic ’50s Ross Hunter sudser, Imitation of Life. Juanita plays the saintly maid to Lana Turner and Sandra Dee. But the real drama comes from the maid’s relationship with her daughter, who passes for white. Played by Susan Kohner, the teen runs away to become a burlesque dancer and wants NOTHING to do with her black mama. Coincidentally, I performed this entire movie during a recent staff meeting at WOW. But if you missed that, check out the clip where the secretly sick mama visits her lost daughter one last time. Heartbreaking!!!! And, the inspiration for Diana Ross & The Supremes “I’m Living In Shame” for those of you playing the home game.
