On Saturday afternoon, just four days after his last appearance on General Hospital, veteran character actor John Ingle died. He was 84. From SOW: “Back in August, his daughter posted a message on Facebook (via Soap Central), saying how much it meant to him to tape one last appearance on the show. She said that when he arrived on the set, he was greeted by a standing ovation.” Watch his last scenes here, and you can tell he’s not long for this world. Interestingly, although he played the curmudgeonly patriarch Edward Quartermaine on the show since 1993, he didn’t even start acting until he retired from being a drama teacher at Hollywood High in the mid-’80s. Among his students were David Schwimmer, Swoosie Kurtz, Julie Kavner, Albert Brooks, Nicolas Cage and several other future stars. And while GH will always be his legacy, it should be noted that to a generation of kids, he will be remembered as the narrator and Topsy from The Land Before Time movies and TV Show.
