Uncanny George W Bush impressionist Steve Bridges died in his sleep unexpectedly earlier this month in Los Angeles. He was 48. The Los Angeles County coroner’s office said Bridges, whose body was discovered by a maid, appeared to die of natural causes. Bridges began doing impressions as a child, imitating the Three Stooges. His impression of Bush made him a regular on Jay Leno’s late-night talk show all during the Bush administration. In 2003, he was invited to the White House and in 2006, the president himself joined him in a comic routine at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner and at a Ford’s Theater benefit. The comic’s impressions of presidents, including Clinton and Obama, involved wigs, prosthetics, and makeup by the likes of Kevin Haney, who won an Oscar for aging Dan Aykroyd in Driving Miss Daisy; Kazu Tsuji, who designed Jim Carrey’s Grinch in How the Grinch Stole Christmas; and Mari Enyart, who was Bridges’ makeup artist. It took nearly four hours to apply the Obama makeup and almost three to do Bush. “From the neck up, everything but his teeth was covered in a prosthetic piece of some sort,” said his manager, Randy Nolen. The former POTUS, George W, made a call to Bridges’ brother, Phillip, to offer his condolences.
