Joe Edwards, the artist who worked on the 1942 debut issue of Archie Comics, died last week in New York after years of heart problems. He was 85. Edwards began his 65-year career illustrating training manuals and making animations while in the Army during World War II. Along with drawing Archie Andrews and his pals Jughead, Betty, and Veronica, Edwards created Li’l Jinx, a precocious tyke who at one time had her own comic book and still sometimes makes guest appearances in others.
