Mike Evans, who played Lionel on the sitcoms All in the Family and The Jeffersons, died last week of throat cancer at his mother’s home in Twentynine Palms, California. He was 57. Evans landed the Lionel role in Norman Lear’s seminal comedy after studying acting at Los Angeles City College, then continued the part in the Jeffersons’ 1975 spinoff from Family. He later co-created and wrote for Good Times and appeared on such disturbingly popular fare as Love, American Style and The Streets of San Francisco. (Showbuzz)
