Until his death two days ago from complications from a stroke, 80-year-old John Zachary Delorean, the man who created the bat-winged, stainless steel Delorean sportscar that had a major role in the Back to the Future trilogy, had been running the Delorean Time watch company and planning to start up another car business. He was living on a New Jersey farm, but declared bankruptcy in 1999 and was subsequently evicted from the farm. Despite the clamor over the failure of his eponymous car, he will be remembered instead for his glamorous paramours and his arrest for, among other charges, money laundering and attempting to sell a massive amount of cocaine. He was later acquitted; it was the ’80s – everyone was selling cocaine.
