Kato, the 11-year-old Akita whose wails on the night of June 6, 1994, were crucial to the murder trial of OJ Simpson, died on October 16 after a short illness, in Orange County. As Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldmen were being slashed to death in her Brentwood house, her dog’s barking was heard by neighbors, who testified in court and established a timeline for the murders. After Nicole’s death, Kato lived with Nicole’s parents in Dana Point. Despite Kato’s help, the murders remain unsolved. (Mercury News)
