Gloria Crest, is located just 10 miles out of Manhattan in Englewood, New Jersey. It was once home to movie star Gloria Swanson.
It was built in 1926 by an heir to the Polish monarchy and the 24,000 sq. ft. mansion features three-room master bedrooms, a game room, a speakeasy, a formal dining room, an ornate limestone fireplace, a recently renovated kitchen plus its own screening room.
Outside, there is an infinity pool and a botanical garden.
If you ask me, the decoration and way it’s painted makes it look like faux-fancy McMansion, but it’s the real deal. The whole thing is wearing a gaudy costume and too much jewelry and makeup. Strip it down and build it back up to a Sunset Boulevard 20s-style palace and then you’ve got something Glo (or Norma) could really appreciate.
It’s just $9.9 million. A steal, considering it originally offered for more than $40 million.
Signature Realty has the listing, so go check it out. $10 million in Manhattan will get you a very nice apartment, but nothing like this estate.
And with this grand staircase, you WILL be ready for your close-up, Mr. DeMille.
Here’s a good companion piece on my blog with rare pics of Gloria at home.
