The Case is a super-exclusive new neighborhood in Malibu built by Scott Gillen, both its developer and designer.
Gillen bought the ocean-facing 24 acres for a record-breaking $50 million in 2017. He told Architectural Digest,
This is probably the best bluff in all of Malibu.
It might even be one of the best bluffs in all of California.”
The Edge was the first to be listed for $70 million in January of this year. The homes will range in price from $70 to $115 million. Gillen says,
We have all five houses standing.
Three houses are complete, one is on the market, one is in escrow, and the last two are headed towards completion.”
The Edge

All of the residences are different sizes and layouts and their names come from their most identifiable feature;
- The Edge has an infinity pool that appears to spill over the side of the bluff
- The Glass Tunnel gets its name from the central glass-enclosed great room
- The Butterfly House has a striking butterfly roof
- The Cantilever House has a massive cantilevered roof
- The Flat House, has, you guessed it, a flat roof
With inspiration from midcentury design, all have clean lines, lots of glass, and a connection to nature with similar amenities, like an ocean-facing pool (the smallest is 75 feet, biggest 144), a media room, and some kind of sport activity.
The Flat House

Each property sits on three to five acres and comes with;
- communal walking paths that wind around the entire bluff
- a staffed guard house that oversees the community 24-7
- FREE on-site concierge for residents during the first year
Aaron Kirman of AKG|Christie’s International Real Estate says,
There really is nothing like it.
With the price point, it really makes for one of the most architecturally unique enclaves in the country.”
The Glass Tunnel House

All really impressive, but honestly for these nose-bleed prices, I see no architectural masterpieces. Lautner or Eames they ain’t. Granted, these are renderings and likely not how they will be furnished or finished, but it’s all just sort of Pinterest/ mid-century mash-up meh.

The views are nice though.
