Brad Pitt’s Los Feliz compound just sold for a jaw-dropping amount.
$33 million.
That’s lower than the $40 million he listed it for, but still a record-breaking sum for the area.
The buyer, Aileen Getty, is a well-known collector of trophy real estate (and current Los Feliz resident) the 65-year-old philanthropist (and reformed drug addict) is a granddaughter of J. Paul Getty, who was once the world’s richest man.
Architecture-lover Pitt, seeking to downsize, also took a shine to Getty’s midcentury modern pavilion in the neighborhood –more on that below.
Both deals closed just four days before L.A.’s new mansion tax went into effect, which saved Pitt more than $1.8 million in additional taxes.
The estate spread across two acres & has;
- 5 adjacent parcels of land
- 5 separate houses
- heavily wooded land with gardens
- 2 swimming pools
- a skate park
- various houses used by Pitt’s staff and security
- others as offices or studios
The main residence is a 6,700 square foot Craftsman-style house built in 1915 that Pitt bought from actress Cassandra Peterson aka Elvira, “Mistress of the Dark” for $1.7 million n 1994. According to Elvira, the property is very haunted.
The house is where he and ex-wife Angelina Jolie raised their six children before splitting in 2016.
As part of a sort of “trading places” deal, Getty handed the keys to her $5.5 million Neil M. Johnson-designed “Steel House” for $5.5 million.
Built in 1960 the 2,000-square-foot bachelor pad, made of steel and glass, hence the name, has;
- terrazzo floors
- cantilevered eaves
- beamed ceilings
- three bedrooms & bathrooms
- pool & patio area
Pitt also recently paid $40 million for the landmark oceanfront D.L. James house, but he also owns another small oceanfront hideaway near Santa Barbara and a 50% stake (with Angelina) in the $164 million Chateau Miraval estate, in the south of France.
Getty has had multiple homes as well, one was a Mulholland Drive equestrian compound she sold a decade ago to Katy Perry, which is now owned by Mr. Chow.
