The Starlet (The WB) – Faye Dunaway on TV is like, well, Faye Dunaway playing Joan Crawford on TV. I gotta say episode one was pretty flat – but the girls seducing teddy bears in episode two had me reaching for the rewind button. That and, of course, studying Faye’s face; the only other face I freeze-frame on these day’s is Paula Abdul’s.
PoweR Girls (MTV) – Lizzie Grubman is a pig. Period. It’s fun watching the way these chicks chew gum. But that gets tired real fast. Is it correct to say that all the girls featured on this series have first names that end with “y” or “ie”?
America’s Next Top Model (UPN) – Tyra is best when she gets all dominitrax on the girls. I mean really, how dare any girl question the makeover skills of Tyra and her team of world-famous professionals! Meanwhile, the fun thing to note this season is the number of times per episode Tyra tells a story that requires a “childhood photo montage” or an old “fashion shot” (like the story she told when a famed hairstylist put her through pain working a weave, and then – BAM – cut to horrid photo still, the pain was worth it. It’s always worth it, Tyra!
Fat Actress (Showtime) – Its genius is its ONE-NOTENESS. What everyone hates about it, I love. (UPDATE: Just watched episode two and the well’s runnin’ dry. I change my mind.)
The Apprentice (NBC) – To quote a genius colleague: “bored room”. Trump’s one-noteness was never ever appealing.
American Idol (Fox) – Without Mario there is no reason to continue watching. OK, well, actually, Paula Abdul’s face is a reason to keep watching. Can someone help me understand what’s going on there? Help me to understand the procedures responsible for that face.
