What the hell are Mel Gibson and a lady cop doing in this recent Thomas Kincade print titled Sunset and Sugartits on the PCH? That’s what we wondered at first. Then it made sense. It’s Kincade’s way of showing support for fellow Christians who find themselves in situations with the legal system. Kincade, the “Painter of Light” known for his greeting card-lite landscapes and street scenes and, shockingly, the most widely collected living American artist, is currently being investigated by the FBI following allegations that some of his top executives used Christianity to convince investors to open independent Thomas Kincade Signature Galleries that sold only Kincade art and then drove them out of business. Says Randy Barbato, who owns the above work (click to enlarge), “The thing that struck me is the predictable inevitability of Christian zealots as crooks, criminals, and bigots. They should all be banished to Kincade’s fairytale land of light – THAT would be hell.” (LA Times)
