Ah, the Race to Erase MS ball in Beverly Hills! It once was THE social event of the season! How used to RACE to the news stand after each year’s gala to get my copy of WWD or LA Confidential to see who wore what! And how I LONGED to be one of the glitterati privileged to attend! Now in it’s 23 year, it still raises millions for multiple sclerosis research, even if it has lost bit of lustre over the years. Hosted by mother/daughter socialites Barbara and Nancy Davis, it now attracts, how shall we say, a certain type of Hollywood celebrity that straddles the line between “beloved National Treasure” and “campy whozit.” Let’s check out this year’s attendees:
Photo, above: The ever-lovely Barbara Davis, widow of the late Marvin Davis, onetime oil magnate, legendary party giver, former owner of 20th Century Fox and The Beverly Hills Hotel, as well as the man said to have inspired Spelling’s 1980s phenomenon Dynasty.
’70s bombshell Loni Anderson
Moonlighting icon Cybill Shepard
Ashley “The Tizz” Tisdale with musician Christopher French
Actress/curley-haired moppet Francesca Capaldi in a breathtaking quinceanera gown that would make AB Soto green with jealousy
Wowlebrity Ross Matthews
OJ Simpson lawyer Robert Shapiro
Musicians Wesley Stromberg, Keaton Stromberg and Drew Chadwick of the boy band Emblem3
Billionaire badboy Jason “Gummy Bear” Davis, brother of my beloved Brandon “Greasy Bear” Davis.
And finally – BOO! – a recently zombified Naya River (formerly of Glee)…
