Earlier today, we reported that Lady Gaga apologized for collaborating with singer R. Kelly, on 2013’s Do What U Want (With My Body), after allegations of the R&B artist’s sexual abuse of young women came to light in the Lifetime docuseries Surviving R. Kelly.
She said (in part):
“I stand behind these women 1000%, believe them, know they are suffering and in pain, and feel strongly that their voices should be heard and taken seriously. What I am hearing about the allegations against R. Kelly is absolutely horrifying and indefensible.
As a victim of sexual assault myself, I made both the song (‘Do What U Want’) and the video at a dark time in my life, my intention was to create something extremely defiant and provocative because I was angry and still hadn’t processed the trauma that had occurred in my own life.
Now, R. Kelly’s attorney Steve Greenberg has responded to Lady Gaga’s apology, essentially accusing her of using the situation to help “up” her Oscar chances.
“Mr. Kelly appreciates that she recognized his immense talent and collaborated with him to help her career, but finds it regrettable that she is now exploiting this controversy to try and help her in her effort to win an Oscar.”
Earlier today, TMZ also posted a video from R. Kelly’s birthday party at a Chicago club last night in which he belligerently shouted to the crowd: “It’s my motherf*cking party and I don’t give a f**k about what’s going on!!” Watch below.
Sooooo…. I think it’s safe to say that Kelly is somewhere between anger and denial on the issue and will definitely be going down swinging. Stay tuned.
