“I get many questions about the song ‘Walk on the Wild Side’. First, I never met Lou Reed until after I’d moved to Europe. Second, I was 18 and married with a child when I filmed Flesh and worked at the Factory answering phones and other jobs Monday through Friday. I did not hang out at the Factory, and rarely went out with the group unless it had to do with a film promotion. Paul and Andy had Lou watch Flesh and wanted him to do a song about the characters. He talked with everyone except me so the lyric about me is entirely based on the character in the film.” – Joe Dallesandro, on being in Lou Reed’s classic song “Walk on the Wild Side.” (Photo: Francesco Scavullo)
