We’re also well into winter, from coast to coast to coast — and here in Canada, we’ve always known how to smile through the cold days and long nights. This time of year, that Canadian spirit shines through most — because this season is about bringing light to the people around us.
The hunky, handsome Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, urged Canadians to stand together as they reflect on the year gone by and look ahead to the New Year.
Trudeau said the winter season, as cold and dark as it may be, is about bringing light into the lives of others.
Trudeau paid tribute to the sacrifices of Canadian military families who have loved ones stationed far from home. And he took a political turn, making note of programs his government has enacted, including the Canada Child Benefit, the national housing strategy and supports for seniors, as mechanisms to help families who are struggling to make ends meet.
He highlighted the country’s diversity, saying Canadians find strength in their differences.
Trudeau also said part of being Canadian is taking care of the people around us.
Just hours after leaving the G7 summit in Quebec this past June, the president of the Unites States of America abruptly retracted U.S. support for a joint statement signed by every nation in the group and blasted Trudeau as “meek and mild”.
Firing off tweets aboard Air Force One, Trump said he was reversing his position in response to Trudeau’s comments at a press conference at the end of the summit. Trudeau had pledged to impose tariffs on the U.S. in response to Trump’s steel and aluminum tariffs against Canada.
Here is one of his tweets: ”PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our @G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that, ‘US Tariffs were kind of insulting’ and he ‘will not be pushed around’. Very dishonest & weak.”
Christmas Day is Trudeau’s birthday. I hope he got my special birthday message that I sent him telepathically.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Trump’s Christmas message was that the drugs are flowing over the border with Mexico, the Federal Reserve is imperiling the economy and the Democrats are preparing to harass him with oversight requests. He fumed from the Oval Office: “It’s a disgrace, what’s happening in our country“, after decrying Democrats as hypocrites and recalling his firing of former FBI Director James Comey. Trump:
But other than that… I wish everybody a very merry Christmas.
Celebrating the holiday at the White House instead of his “Winter White House” in Palm Beach, Trump used a phone call session with American troops to advance his case for a border wall, his isolationist foreign policy views and his insistence that his campaign did not collude with Russia.
