
Demetri Martin is an unconventional deadpan stand-up comic. He uses one-liners and drawings on a large pad, and he accompanies his jokes with music that he plays on guitar, harmonica, piano, keyboard, glockenspiel, toy bells, ukulele, or tambourine, sometimes all at once.
He has submitted some of his cartoons to The New Yorker magazine at its invitation, and had them rejected, saying: “You’ve got to get better at drawing. These aren’t funny enough.”
Martin wrote, directed and starred with Kevin Kline in Dean (2016) about a guy who is a published cartoon artist who draws in a simple style with felt pen on board. The drawings in the film are done by Martin.
Martin is the voice of “Ice Bear” in the Cartoon Network series We Bare Bears.
