Last week, Samantha Bee called Ivanka Trump a “feckless cunt” on her TBS show Full Frontal With Samantha Bee and the conservative backlash was swift and strong. POTUS tweeted: “…why TBS wasn’t firing no talent Samantha Bee.” The lovely White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that Bee was “vile and vicious,” demanding that TBS fire her. The blonds at Fox News wrongly compared Bee’s comment to the Roseanne Barr controversy. It is interesting that POTUS never demanded that ABC fire his friend Barr for her racist tweets.
Last night, June 6, Bee made her official apology on her show, which explains how she intended that word that broke the Internet to be used on her show.
Bee:
“It is a word I have used on the show many times, hoping to reclaim it. This time, I used it as an insult. I crossed a line. I regret it and I do apologize. The problem is that many women have heard that word at the worst moments of their lives. A lot of them don’t want that word reclaimed. They want it gone, and I don’t blame them. I don’t want to inflict more pain on them.”
Bee also joked:
“Many men were also offended by my use of the word…I do not care about that.”
Bee’s mea culpa refused to bow to the conservative’s sham outrage. And, what she said next was the most important. Bee:
”I hate that I did something to contribute to the nightmare of 24-hour news cycles that we’re all white-knuckling through. I should have known that a potty-mouthed insult would be inherently more interesting to them than juvenile immigration policy.”
Supporters of the president don’t care about the ”C” word, they just need something to fuel their outrage so that they can distract from a White House policy that is terrorizing young, innocent migrant children.
Bee’s use of a certain word was what caused a stir last week, instead of the kids living in cages, separated from their parents.
Bee said while she aims for her series to be “challenging” and “honest”, and she added:
“I never intended it to hurt anyone, except Ted Cruz.”
Apologies from TBS and Bee came hours after two advertisers threatened to pull out of the show. Now it seems that TBS is going to be giving Bee’s show more oversight. The Hollywood Reporter reports:
”Following the backlash, network management will have more scrutiny over Bee’s show. The plan is for management to work with the show to prevent another incident that could potentially scare advertisers and draw condemnation from both sides of the political aisle.”
Noting how the show may change, Bee said:
“I’m really sorry that I said that word, but you know what? Civility is just nice words. Maybe we should all worry a little bit more about the niceness of our actions.”
Bee joked:
“I promised I would never call anyone that word again, but I can still think it.”
It is so impossibly sad that Bee’s use of a controversial comment about Ivanka simply ended up tightening censorship of her show instead shining a bright light on the dark American immigration policy that terrorizes children.
By the way, this World of Wonder writer uses that certain word liberally, take note.
