Since the start of his campaign in 2015, POTUS has promised to restore the United States of America’s reputation around the globe. Over and over again for the past three years, he has insisted: “the world is laughing at us“. On Tuesday, he learned why.
Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, Donald John Trump boasted:
“…my administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country.”
Representatives from 193 countries around the room giggled then guffawed at him, rattled, the president paused and then admitted:
“I did not expect that reaction, but that’s O.K.”
On Tuesday night, on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, the host quipped:
“Don’t worry, Mr. President, they’re not laughing at you, they’re laughing with each other at you”.
“Once he made it to the U.N., he jumped right into his favorite talking point: himself. And after explaining to the countries of the world that America would leave them alone, he started picking on them.”
Colbert went on to play video clips of Trump’s speech, showing the president as he criticized the leaders of Iran, China and Germany, while complimenting North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. Colbert:
“So Trump appeared before the United Nations to reject the premise of nations uniting.”
Colbert compared POTUS to a wedding guest who hates weddings. In his terrific Trump voice, he said:
“Congratulations to Mike and Diane on their wedding. We believe the institution of marriage is a sham. We reject the ideology of monogamy. Diane, when Mike gets fat, call me.”

Other late night show hosts weighed in:
Jimmy Fallon:
“Trump hasn’t heard that much laughter since his night with Stormy Daniels.”
Conan O’Brien:
“Trump was furious, because for a few seconds he accidentally made some foreigners happy.”
James Corden:
“He got a big laugh! He did. I look forward to seeing Trump do his set again on the next season of ‘Comedians in Cars Committing Collusion’.”
