I was watching football this weekend, and was kind of surprised by a T-Mobile cell phone commercial. It’s about how couples used to buy load online and spend all their cell phone minutes calling each other, and it features about 10 hetero couples, but then it goes to two guys sharing a bathroom (one is shaving), and it’s obvious they’re a couple as well.
The gay couple is only onscreen for one to two seconds, but I still am quite impressed that – in this Jesusland era of ours – T-Mobile would have the guts to feature a gay couple on a national ad that isn’t a public service announcement or a promo for Will & Grace or Queer Eye. What’s more, the only times I’ve seen the ad has been during football and World Series games.
Is this a milestone at all? Have gay couples been on a lot of other national spots?
