Really, who better than a dead drug addict to talk to other addicts about the error of their ways? In each hourlong episode of MTV’s eight-part series, Gone Too Far, DJ AM, who ODed in August, meets with young substance abusers and their friends and families to explore how willing they are to seek help. Though it seems macabre in light of Adam’s recent death (and MTV did axe the show after Goldstein’s body was found in his apartment), it was his family’s wish for the series to air. “It is our hope,” they told MTV, “that through airing this show people will get to see the side of Adam that we knew and loved, not just the celebrity DJ, but the honest and caring person who gave so much of himself to help others. The decision to air the show has been difficult, but we do this with the profound belief that it will inspire others to seek help.” Gone Too Far airs tonight on MTV at 10PM.
