If you are of a certain age, the opening chords of The Banana Splits Adventure Hours (“La la la, la la la la, la la la LA LA LA LAAAAAH”) will bring sweet, nostalgic tears to your eyes and send you down a rabbit hole of other ’60s/’70s-era kids shows like HR Puffinstuff, Lidsville, Sigmund the Sea Monster, and (my forever favorite) The New Zoo Review. Kids today have NO IDEA what they’re missing. Don’t get me started.
Bloody Disgusting is reporting today that the wacky, psychedelic ’60s animal characters Bingo, Fleegle, Drooper and Snorky will return in an original horror movie (???!!!) that’s set to “premiere this year from Blue Ribbon Content, Warner Bros Television Group’s digital studio, via a Warner Bros. Home Entertainment release that will be followed by the television debut on Syfy.”
In the upcoming horror thriller, “A boy named Harley and his family (brother Austin, mother Beth, and father Mitch) attend a taping of The Banana Splits TV show, which is supposed to be a fun-filled birthday for young Harley and business as usual for Rebecca, the producer of the series. But things take an unexpected turn — and the body count quickly rises. Can Harley, his mom and their new pals safely escape?”
Seriously. What. The. Actual. Fuck.
Next you’ll be telling me Shaggy and Scooby are being rebooted as a serial killer team or Hong Kong Fooey becomes a Walter White-like meth dealer. Way to wreck a childhood, Warner Bros.
But for now, do yourself a favor and take a listen to the best damn opening credits in TV history. La la la, la la la la, la la la, LA LA LA LAAAAAAAAAAH.
